Kelechi Anosike: PDP Remains the Best Thing that Happened to Abia State

As political activities intensify for the 2027 governorship election in Abia State, Nigeria, Kelechi Anosike, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, has firmly stated his party's indispensable role in the state's development. Anosike, who is also preparing to share his plans for Abia if elected, is addressing internal party friction surrounding his nomination.

I want to state categorically that I’m a strong PDP member from my ward to state and national levels. So, it was easy having understood the dynamics. And I’m PDP both at heart and in spirit. It was easy for me when I come in to be able to get the ticket because I’m a real party man.

Responding to criticisms that his emergence as the governorship candidate was a "rude shock" to some PDP stakeholders, Anosike detailed his extensive history within the party. He highlighted his involvement since 2005, including his work with former President Olusegun Obasanjo and his service on various presidential committees appointed by the late President Yar'Adua. Anosike also mentioned his consistent financial support for the party's local office and his previous attempts to secure electoral tickets, underscoring his deep roots and dedication.

Anosike acknowledged that some aspirants might be unhappy about not securing the ticket, describing it as a natural human reaction to competition. However, he stressed that the PDP remains a united family. He confirmed that he has reached out to those who lost the primary, extending an olive branch and emphasizing a collective mission to unseat the incumbent Labour Party government. The party leadership is also reportedly involved in fostering cohesion.

It’s important to say that PDP is not divided. It’s one united big family. But in every competition, there must be a winner. Of course, those that failed to get the ticket will not be happy one way or the other. It’s human, emotions and so on. But I’ve reached out to them.

His acceptance speech explicitly called for unity, urging all members to come together for the common goal of repositioning the PDP to regain the Government House. Anosike's message centers on consolidating the party's strength and leveraging his long-standing commitment to lead the PDP back into power in Abia State.
