Kerala tourism minister invites visitors to 'Be a Malayali for a Day'

Kerala's tourism minister is inviting global travelers to step beyond sightseeing and immerse themselves in local life through an innovative new initiative: 'Be a Malayali for a Day.' This program aims to deepen international visitors' connection with the state's vibrant culture and traditions.

Tourism Minister PC Vishnunadh explained that the initiative moves away from traditional tourism models, which often position visitors as passive observers. Instead, it encourages active participation and engagement with the local community. “Visitors will be encouraged to actively engage with local people and culture instead of being mere spectators,” he stated, outlining the vision for a more interactive travel experience.

The campaign rebrands Kerala's tourism appeal from a simple invitation to 'Come to see Kerala' towards a more profound 'Come to experience Kerala.' This shift seeks to foster a more meaningful connection by allowing tourists to participate in everyday life and cultural practices.

Under the 'Be a Malayali for a Day' program, tourists can engage in culturally rich activities, such as learning to create an Athapookalam, a traditional floral carpet. This hands-on approach promises a unique and memorable way for visitors to understand and appreciate the diverse cultural fabric of Kerala.
