Kevin Keegan, a towering figure in English football, has died at the age of 75 after a battle with a serious illness. His family confirmed his passing in a statement, expressing deep sadness.

With immense sadness, we announce that Kevin Keegan has passed away at the age of 75.

Keegan's family revealed in January 2026 that he had been diagnosed with cancer, and he later shared that it had reached its fourth stage. The family expressed gratitude for the medical team's support and requested privacy during this difficult time.

Regarded as one of the finest players of his generation, Keegan enjoyed a stellar playing career, featuring in nearly 750 club matches. He began at Scunthorpe before moving to Liverpool, where he won numerous titles, including three English league championships, the FA Cup, the European Cup, and two UEFA Cups. He remains the only British player to have won the Ballon d'Or twice, in 1978 and 1979, while playing for Hamburg in the Bundesliga.

His career also included spells at Southampton, Newcastle United, and Blacktown City. For England, he earned 63 caps and scored 21 goals. After retiring, Keegan transitioned into management, taking charge of Newcastle, Fulham, and Manchester City. He also managed the England national team from 1999 to 2000, though his tenure was short-lived.
