Key Ministerial Posts Eyed by PSD in Romania's Veștea Government Talks

Adrian Veștea, the designated Prime Minister of Romania, is navigating complex political negotiations to form a new government, with the Social Democratic Party (PSD) reportedly vying for crucial ministerial positions. Discussions are ongoing regarding the distribution of portfolios such as Energy, Justice, Transport, and Finance within the potential Veștea cabinet.

While the final structure of the government remains unconfirmed, sources suggest PSD's Daniel Zamfir is a candidate for Energy, Radu Marinescu for Justice, and Florin Barbu for Agriculture. Other potential appointments include Florin Manole (PNL) for Labor, Alexandru Rogobete (PSD) for Health, and Ciprian Șerban (PSD) for Transport. Rareș Bogdan (PNL) is mentioned for Investment and European Projects, while Nicoleta Pauliuc or Sorin Cîmpeanu (both PNL) are considered for Defense. Cătălin Predoiu (PNL) and Bogdan Neacșu are reportedly in contention for the Interior Ministry, and Alexandru Nazare is considered for the vital Finance portfolio.

Veștea is proceeding with efforts to form the executive, undeterred by the stated opposition of PNL, USR, and UDMR. He plans to submit the government program and ministerial list to Parliament soon, even without a guaranteed majority. Political sources indicate Veștea is counting on votes from PNL lawmakers, SOS România, PSD, and other smaller parties or independents to reach the minimum 233 votes required for investiture. The PNL itself appears divided, with some factions supporting current leadership and others backing Veștea.
