Keyamo dismisses opposition, says 2027 election ‘a coronation’ for Tinubu

Nigeria's Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, confidently asserted that President Bola Tinubu is poised for re-election in 2027, characterizing the upcoming contest as a "coronation, not an election." Speaking on Channels Television, Keyamo defended the current administration's performance and expressed skepticism about the opposition's prospects.

I want to make a profound statement as a closing statement. Not out of arrogance, not out of overconfidence, but out of pure demographic calculations: the 2027 election is a coronation, not an election.

When questioned about the potential challenge from figures like former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, Keyamo dismissed their threats. He questioned the source of Obi's votes and humorously referred to Atiku as a "nightmare who?" The minister's confidence stems from what he described as "pure demographic calculations."

Keyamo pointed to recent electoral successes, including victories in Ekiti and the Federal Capital Territory, as evidence of the ruling All Progressives Congress's (APC) enduring appeal. He stated that Tinubu's re-election is a near certainty, emphasizing that his prediction is based on data rather than arrogance. Tinubu is expected to seek a second term with Vice President Kashim Shettima, facing anticipated competition from Abubakar and Obi, who may partner with Rabiu Kwankwaso.
