Kiel fires: Person rescued from apartment building blaze

Firefighters in Kiel and the surrounding Rendsburg-Eckernförde district tackled multiple blazes overnight, with one dramatic rescue from a burning apartment building in Kiel-Gaarden. The fire, which broke out around 9:35 p.m., had flames visible from the exterior when emergency services arrived.

Crews immediately focused on rescuing a resident trapped at a second-floor window. Using a turntable ladder, firefighters brought the individual to safety. Simultaneously, multiple teams wearing breathing apparatus fought the fire on the first floor, successfully preventing its spread. However, the flames had partially engulfed the facade, requiring extensive extinguishing work that continued into the night.

Approximately 50 emergency personnel from the fire and rescue services were involved in the operation. The apartment building was rendered uninhabitable by the fire, and the landlord arranged alternative accommodation for the displaced residents.

In addition to the Kiel incident, other fires kept emergency services busy. In Ottendorf, a garden shed caught fire around 7:55 p.m., with the blaze spreading to an adjacent house. This fire was quickly extinguished, and no injuries were reported, though the extent of the damage remains unclear. Another garden shed fire occurred in a Kiel allotment garden colony around 2:23 a.m., also without any reported injuries. The causes for these fires are currently unknown.
