Kim Dong-won elected new chairman of People Power Party's North Chungcheong chapter, defeating ex-governor

Kim Dong-won, the current chairman of the People Power Party's Cheongju Heungdeok district chapter, has been elected as the new chairman of the party's North Chungcheong Provincial Chapter. The election saw Kim Dong-won secure a significant mandate from the party delegates.

In the vote held on July 27, Kim Dong-won garnered 280 votes, representing 72.92% of the 384 ballots cast. His opponent, Kim Young-hwan, a former North Chungcheong Province Governor who ran shortly after a local election defeat, received 104 votes, or 27.08%.

Following his victory, Kim Dong-won outlined his vision for the provincial chapter. "I will serve as the vanguard, embodying the will of the party members," he stated. He plans to operate the chapter with a dual focus on internal party harmony and robust opposition to the ruling party. His primary objective is to lead the party to victory in the general elections, which are approximately 1 year and 9 months away.

Kim Dong-won brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously worked as a journalist for Dong-A Ilbo, served as vice president of Asia Today, and acted as a national public relations advisory member for the Prime Minister's Office. He has also held the position of spokesperson for the People Power Party.
