Kim Jong Un inspects new nuclear material plant, vows exponential force increase

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has inspected a newly commissioned nuclear material production facility, signaling a continued emphasis on bolstering the nation's nuclear arsenal. The inspection, which took place on June 3rd, was reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) on June 4th. Kim was accompanied by senior officials from the party's Munitions Industry Department and the Nuclear Weapons Institute.

Over the past five years, under the direct leadership of the 8th Party Central Committee, the capacity for producing weapons-grade nuclear material has reached a level more than double that of the past.

While KCNA did not disclose the facility's specific location or production capacity, it is speculated to be a fourth site for high-enriched uranium production, in addition to known facilities in Yongbyon, Kangson, and Kuseong. During his visit, Kim reviewed operational indicators and production plans, noting that the facility incorporates more sophisticated technology.

Kim stated that over the past five years, under the direct leadership of the Party Central Committee, North Korea's capacity for producing weapons-grade nuclear material has more than doubled. He highlighted the successful execution of decisions made at key party plenums, which included a strategic decision to expand nuclear material production capacity and consequently increase the number of nuclear weapons.

KCNA also reported that a significant consultative meeting related to strengthening nuclear capabilities took place. Kim announced crucial conclusions with specific action guidelines, stating that "important figures in our nuclear activities were updated today" and that "tactical and strategic demand aspects were fully considered in building nuclear deterrence." He declared the establishment of a "historic event" that sets a "transformative milestone for advancing nuclear capabilities," emphasizing the plan to "exponentially strengthen our state nuclear force."
