Kim Min-jong sues MC Mong for alleged defamation over false claims

Singer and actor Kim Min-jong has sued rapper and producer MC Mong over allegations that false claims damaged his reputation. Kim’s legal representatives said they filed the complaint at Seoul’s Jongno Police Station on the previous day.

The complaint alleges a violation of South Korea’s law governing the promotion of information and communications network use and information protection, specifically defamation. Kim’s side also said it plans to pursue civil damages.

The case follows remarks MC Mong made in May while raising allegations of illegal gambling involving a relative of Cha Ga-won, chairman of the One Hundred Label. Kim’s representatives rejected the allegation and said it spread through the media and online. They claimed the actor’s reputation and credibility, built since his debut in 1988, suffered serious harm. They also said discussions over a Hollywood project and two advertising contracts that had been under detailed negotiation were halted.
