Kim Min-seok Wins Key Preliminary Election for Democratic Party Leadership

Kim Min-seok has taken the lead in the race for the Democratic Party's leadership, winning the preliminary election held in the Gangwon and Daegu-Gyeongbuk regions. The victory positions him ahead of his main rival, Chung Chin-sup, as the party heads towards its national convention on August 17.

In the Daegu-Gyeongbuk regional contest on Sunday, Kim Min-seok received 18,977 votes, accounting for 48.54% of the total. Chung Chin-sup followed with 17,355 votes, or 44.39%. Song Young-gil came in third with 2,760 votes (7.06%). This result marks a significant shift in the ongoing leadership battle.

The preliminary election results show Kim Min-seok edging out Chung Chin-sup by a margin of 1,622 votes, or 4.15 percentage points. This win allows Kim to reclaim the cumulative lead in the overall delegate count for the party's top post.
