Kim Simya surprises fans with 26-minute ‘Dogma’ music video directed by Park Chan-kyong

Kim Simya has unexpectedly unveiled a 26-minute music video for “Dogma,” a strikingly long visual release that arrives just before his new full-length album.

His agency, Beasts And Natives Alike, said he released the video at 5 p.m. on the day of the announcement without advance notice. Artist and filmmaker Park Chan-kyong directed the project, editing together his own painting and video work.

Park has moved between contemporary art and cinema, holding solo exhibitions at institutions including South Korea’s National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art in the United States. With his brother, director Park Chan-wook, he formed the creative project PARKing CHANce and co-directed the short film “Night Fishing,” which won the Golden Bear for best short film at the 2011 Berlin International Film Festival. He also received acclaim for the 2013 documentary “Manshin.”

“Dogma” is Kim Simya’s first full-length album in six years. Digital platforms will release it at 6 p.m. on Sept. 9. A limited physical edition, made as a special device with a built-in small speaker rather than a standard CD, sold out early after presales. Sales of the limited stock will resume on the album’s release date.
