Kim Yeon-koung appointed AVC Athletes' Commission chair, ambassador

Volleyball icon Kim Yeon-koung is stepping into a new leadership role as the chairperson of the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Athletes' Commission. She will also serve as a promotional ambassador for the organization, with her two-year term commencing on September 1.

Asian volleyball's icon Kim Yeon-koung is scheduled to serve as the chairperson of the AVC Athletes' Commission and as a promotional ambassador.

The AVC announced Kim's appointment, stating her role will focus on strengthening athletes' voices and advancing the sport throughout Asia. The confederation highlighted her distinguished career, including her impactful performances in the Korean national team and major international professional leagues, as key qualifications for her new responsibilities.

She will work to strengthen athletes' voices and promote volleyball across Asia.

AVC President Ramon Suzara expressed his enthusiasm in an official letter, calling Kim the most suitable candidate to represent Asian volleyball and its athletes. He anticipates the vision and inspiration she will bring to the Athletes' Commission and the confederation as a whole.

Kim Yeon-koung is the most suitable person to represent the voice of athletes and promote volleyball throughout Asia, given her outstanding career and leadership both on and off the court, and her dedication to volleyball.

Since retiring, Kim has remained active in promoting volleyball. She has expanded the sport's popularity through the MBC entertainment program 'Kim Yeon-koung, the New Director' and advises the Heungkuk Life Insurance Pink Spiders volleyball team on club operations. Her contributions were recently recognized at the first AVC Gala Awards in Thailand, where she received a special 'Award of Merit' for her achievements and dedication to Asian volleyball development.
