King Charles makes clear: No royal duties for Harry and Meghan

Prince Harry and Meghan will not return to royal duties, even after moving back to Britain, according to a letter sent on behalf of King Charles to several authorities and institutions.

The letter says the couple will appear in Britain as “private citizens.” The wording makes clear that any activities they undertake will be private and that they will not represent the royal family, the BBC reported.

Harry and Meghan moved from California to Britain at the end of August with their children, Archie and Lilibet. Their return does not alter the arrangement reached after they stepped down from their official roles in 2020.

The Sandringham agreement means the couple cannot be partly inside and partly outside the royal institution. They cannot pursue their own commercial interests while also serving as working members of the royal family. The letter sent on the king's behalf indicates that this remains the position.

Harry and Meghan announced in January 2020 that they would leave their official roles in March that year, then moved to California. They later expressed negative feelings about the British royal family. In the 2022 Netflix documentary “Harry & Meghan,” they described personal difficulties involving the institution.
