King Filip Visits Young Footballers at KV Kortrijk's Red Side Academy

King Filip paid a visit to the Red Side Academy, an initiative run by the KV Kortrijk football club. This academy is a social project dedicated to bringing young people together through sports, with a strong emphasis on inclusion and equal opportunities for all participants.

The visit clearly made a significant impression on the young footballers and volunteers present. "He's a very kind man," shared Eva and her friend, reflecting on the experience. "You don't get to experience something like that often, that he's just walking around here in public. It was a beautiful experience. He also asked us a lot of questions about football."

Each week, the Red Side Academy gathers approximately 400 boys and girls at various sports fields in Kortrijk. The program provides a vital outlet for children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds who might not have access to traditional sports clubs due to their home situations. Participation is free, and no formal registration is required, ensuring accessibility.

This commitment to inclusivity was recognized last December when the academy received the Flemish sports jewel award in the 'Warmest Sports Initiative' category. This accolade served as a catalyst for the King's visit, further shining a spotlight on the project's valuable work in fostering community and providing opportunities through sport.
