King Felipe VI of Spain, along with seven Latin American presidents and the prime minister of Curaçao, are confirmed attendees for the inauguration of Colombia's President-elect Abelardo de la Espriella. The ceremony is scheduled for Friday in Cali. Mayor Alejandro Eder confirmed the high-level international attendance via social media, stating that "ten delegations of the highest level" will be present. Notable heads of state include Javier Milei of Argentina, Daniel Noboa of Ecuador, Santiago Peña of Paraguay, Laura Fernández of Costa Rica, José Raúl Mulino of Panama, Luis Abinader of the Dominican Republic, José Antonio Kast of Chile, and Nasry Asfura of Honduras. El Salvador and Guatemala will send their vice presidents, while Brazil's foreign minister will also attend. This inauguration is historic as it breaks with Colombian tradition by being held outside the capital, Bogotá, for the first time in recent history. President-elect De la Espriella emphasized that the event will be an "austere ceremony" and the "first demonstration that decentralization ceases to be a speech to become a reality." The event also marks the resumption of diplomatic ties between Colombia and Israel, following a formal rupture in May 2024.
