Kinmen Halts Pork Exports for a Week After African Swine Fever Detection; Approved Products Safe

Kinmen County is temporarily halting exports of pork and processed pork products to Taiwan and other islands for one week. This measure follows the detection of African swine fever in pig carcasses that washed ashore. The county government, however, has moved to reassure consumers about the safety of certain products.

Specifically, the county has guaranteed that all hoofed animal processed products that received risk assessment approval from the Ministry of Agriculture on January 9 are exempt from the ban. Consumers can purchase these items with confidence. The county government has published a comprehensive list of approved vendors and product categories.

These approved items span nine major categories. They include beef and pork jerky and floss products from 16 companies, such as Shengzu Co., Ltd. and Liang Jin Industrial Co., Ltd. Also on the list are mooncakes containing pork or beef floss, and baked goods with pork, beef, or lamb fillings. Additionally, prepared meals like beef noodle soup and Cantonese congee, as well as frozen cooked beef and lamb, and even pork and beef dumplings, are cleared for sale. The list also includes beef nougat and beef extract drinks.
