KIPO Policy Contest Receives Record 27,000 Submissions

The Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) has announced a remarkable achievement: its 'Everyone's Idea' policy contest garnered an unprecedented 27,000 submissions. This nationwide open contest, designed to unearth innovative public ideas and channel them into entrepreneurial ventures, research and development, and concrete government policies, has set a new benchmark for public engagement in policy-making.

From January 8 to April 15, the contest saw a total of 27,185 ideas submitted, making it the most successful idea competition hosted by any government ministry. The free-competition policy sector attracted the largest share of submissions, accounting for 39.6% of the total, followed by designated competition topics (34.1%) and the free-competition technology sector (26.3%).

Analysis of the free-competition submissions, aided by AI-powered automatic classification, revealed that the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport received the most policy ideas (1,736), while the manufacturing sector led in the technology category with 1,345 submissions. Within the designated competition, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's initiative, 'Creating More Convenient Public Services with AI,' garnered significant attention with 1,617 entries.

These ideas will undergo a rigorous evaluation process, with the first round of expert reviews concluding by the end of May. Approximately 100 outstanding ideas will be selected to advance to an enhancement program by the end of September. This program will provide expert consultations and support for further development, including policy validation for policy ideas and patent applications or prototype creation for technology ideas. The ultimate goal is to integrate these selected ideas into tangible policy changes and business ventures, fostering innovation and improving public services across South Korea. This initiative truly embodies the spirit of collaborative governance, leveraging the collective intelligence of the nation to drive progress.
