Kiunga Community rallies to save Sare Kona water source as El Niño drought bites

In Kiunga Town, Western Province, residents of Ward 5 and surrounding areas demonstrated strong community spirit by participating in a cleanup and improvement effort for the Sare Kona drinking water source. This initiative comes as communities grapple with the severe impacts of the ongoing El Niño-induced drought.

The community work parade focused on essential tasks: cleaning the water well itself, repairing the access road leading to the collection point, and enhancing overall accessibility to ensure the area remains safe for residents who depend on it for their daily water needs. The effort was spearheaded by Ward 5 Councillor and Deputy Mayor of Kiunga Town, Gisio Dengri, who had previously called for volunteers among those utilizing the Sare Kona water source.
