KMT Chairwoman Refutes Changhua Election Rumors, Accuses DPP of 'Last Resort' Tactic

Speculation about a potential leadership change within the Kuomintang (KMT) for the Changhua County magistrate election has intensified, prompting a strong rebuttal from KMT Chairwoman Hsu Chiao-hsin. During a campaign event for KMT candidate Wei Ping-cheng, Hsu dismissed the rumors as a tactic by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) to secure victory.

Hsu urged her party's supporters not to fall for the DPP's alleged "poisoning" tactics, drawing a parallel to a situation in Chiayi City. She emphasized the strong performance of the incumbent KMT magistrate, Wang Hui-mei, and criticized the central government's lack of achievements. Hsu implored influential women leaders in Changhua to act as her and Wei's proxies, to ensure that "rumors stop with the wise" and to rally support for Wei Ping-cheng.

In response, the DPP's Changhua County magistrate candidate Chen Su-yueh's campaign office, through spokesperson Yang Tzu-hsien, stated that the DPP's objective is to unite Changhua and accelerate its development. The office asserted that the party has concrete policies and a steady campaign rhythm, and would not engage in speculation about other parties' activities. Their sole focus, they added, is on improving Changhua, a sentiment shared by their supporters.
