KMT Legislator Resigns as Chiayi Chairwoman to Aid Taichung Campaign, Sparking Local Outrage

Legislator Wang Yu-min's sudden resignation as the Kuomintang's (KMT) Chiayi County chapter chairwoman has sent shockwaves through the local party base. The move, reportedly to support Taichung mayoral candidate Johnny Chiang, has fueled discontent among party members who view it as detrimental to campaign morale and strategy with less than four months until elections.

The KMT's central committee stated that Wang's role as campaign executive director for Chiang was approved after repeated requests, acknowledging her previous service in Chiayi County. However, local party members express frustration over the slow pace of nominations for township mayors and councilors. They point to the fact that only one township mayor candidate and seven councilor candidates have been nominated across the county, with many other party members opting to run as independents.

This dissatisfaction stems from a perceived lack of leadership and strategic planning from the county chapter under Wang's tenure. The timing of her resignation, coinciding with the first wave of nominations, has further fueled criticism, leaving loyal party members feeling disheartened.

The KMT central committee explained that Chiang had requested in June to appoint Wang as his campaign executive director. At the time, the central committee did not agree due to the incomplete nomination process for township mayors and councilors in Chiayi County. Chiang later made multiple requests, and the central committee reluctantly agreed.
