KMT's Lee Ssu-chuan leads DPP's Wu Chih-chiang by 6.2% in New Taipei mayoral poll; Hou Yu-ih hopes for smooth succession

A recent poll commissioned by the Kuomintang (KMT) New Taipei City Council caucus indicates that KMT mayoral candidate Lee Ssu-chuan holds a 6.2% lead over his Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) rival, Wu Chih-chiang. The survey shows Lee with 39.2% support compared to Wu's 33%.

New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih, who is nearing the end of his term, expressed his support for Lee, stating that the candidate's policy proposals have been well-received by the city's residents. "Lee Ssu-chuan understands New Taipei City very well, and he has been involved in the city's major and minor constructions," Hou said. He added that Lee's background as a grassroots civil servant ensures administrative efficiency and expressed hope that Lee will "smoothly take over" the mayoral position.

Lee has recently complained about facing frequent attacks from his opponent. He drew a parallel to Hou's own mayoral campaign eight years ago, which also faced criticism from the green camp. Hou responded by emphasizing the importance for all candidates to present a clear vision for New Taipei City's governance that resonates with the citizens.

The poll was conducted by the TVBS Polling Center. The election is set to determine who will lead Taiwan's most populous municipality, a key political battleground.
