Kogi plans ₦8.55bn social investment package for 281,750 beneficiaries

Kogi State has proposed an ₦8.55 billion social investment package targeting 281,750 people across all 21 local government areas.

The proposal covers social transfers, livelihood assistance, climate-smart public works, community infrastructure, agricultural support and expansion of the state social register. Finance, Budget and Economic Planning Commissioner Asiwaju Idris disclosed the figures during an interview held on the sidelines of a state commissioners’ forum meeting.

The social cash transfer component would provide ₦1.237 billion for 5,000 beneficiaries. A separate livelihood support programme would target 15,000 people at an estimated cost of ₦2 billion.

Under the Social Cash Transfer Unit, DLI 1.1 is expected to benefit 5,000 people across the 21 LGAs at a projected cost of ₦1.237bn.

Climate-smart public works are projected to involve 3,400 beneficiaries and cost about ₦1.088 billion. Community basic services and infrastructure would receive an estimated ₦2.072 billion, with the programme proposing 1,000 beneficiaries per community across the 21 local government areas.

The FADAMA component would support 7,350 people with agricultural inputs and assets at an estimated cost of ₦1.854 billion. The state operations coordinating unit would allocate ₦300.55 million to expand the State Social Register, covering 250,000 beneficiaries. The commissioners’ forum meeting also focused on grassroots mobilisation and public engagement in support of President Bola Tinubu and Governor Usman Ododo ahead of the 2027 general elections.
