Kookmin University Marks 80th Anniversary with Collaborative Exhibition 'The Drawing'

Kookmin University is celebrating its 80th anniversary with a special collaborative exhibition, "The Drawing," which runs until September 11. This event highlights a decade of interdisciplinary fusion, particularly bridging the fields of art and engineering. Organized by the Future Automotive Innovation Convergence University Program Group, the exhibition features contributions from automotive engineering students at Kookmin University and art students from Kyung Hee University, as well as invited artists.

Launched in 2017, "The Drawing" began as an initiative to integrate drawing into engineering education. The process of observing and sketching complex systems like automobiles and mechanical structures has been instrumental in expanding students' engineering observation skills and spatial perception. Over the years, the exhibition has evolved into a collaborative platform, fostering interaction between engineering disciplines, the arts, students, and professional artists.

This year's exhibition is presented in two stages. It commenced at the BODA Gallery of the Incheon Science and Arts Academy, coinciding with the academy's 10th-anniversary celebrations, and will continue until August 27. Following this, the exhibition moves to the Kyung Hee University Museum of Art, where it will be displayed until September 11. This dual presentation aims to create a dynamic exchange of perspectives between different educational institutions, academic fields, and artistic expressions.

Professor Lee Dong-heon from Kookmin University's Automotive Mobility major, who guided the students in preparing for the exhibition, emphasized the educational value of the process. "'The Drawing' is not about achieving perfect artistic skill, but about meticulously observing the subject and visually expressing the structures and relationships one understands," he stated. "It is meaningful that this exhibition, now in its tenth year, has expanded this year to become a forum for exchange involving students and artists from various educational institutions and disciplines."
