'Korea's probability of winning against Czech Republic is 42.9%'... Analysis firm predicts

South Korea faces the Czech Republic in their opening match of the 2026 North, Central American and Caribbean World Cup, with sports data analysis firm Opta predicting a 42.9% probability of a South Korean victory. The analysis, updated on Opta's website, suggests the Czech Republic has a 31.1% chance of winning, while a draw is estimated at 26%.

Despite South Korea holding a higher FIFA world ranking at 25th compared to the Czech Republic's 40th, historical head-to-head statistics present a less favorable picture for the Korean team. Their record against the Czechs stands at 1 win, 2 draws, and 2 losses, indicating a challenging past encounter history.

Opta's supercomputer simulations have also projected South Korea's progression through the tournament. The firm previously estimated South Korea's chances of advancing to the Round of 32 at 70.1% and winning Group A at 22.4%. Mexico was predicted to top Group A with a 48% probability, followed by South Korea and then the Czech Republic at 18.4%.

Further refinements to the projections show a slight upward revision for South Korea's prospects. The latest estimates place their chances of reaching the Round of 32 at 70.62%, the Round of 16 at 33.72%, and the quarterfinals at 12.53%. The probability of reaching the semifinals is set at 4.05%, with a 1.34% chance of making the final and a 0.40% chance of winning the tournament.
