Korean University Library Association and Nuri Media Award Scholarships to Four Graduate Students

The Korean University Library Association and Nuri Media have awarded scholarships to four graduate students, aiming to cultivate future professionals for university libraries. The 5th Nuri Scholarship Award Ceremony took place on August 25th, where scholarship certificates and bouquets were presented to the selected recipients.

This scholarship will be a stepping stone for me to grow into a professional librarian who leads innovation in library services in the AI era.

The ceremony was attended by Jeong Dong-jin, chairman of the Nuri Scholarship Business Committee, and Choi Soon-il, CEO of Nuri Media. The scholarship recipients shared their research ambitions and expressed their gratitude.

Choi Si-on, who is focusing on AI applications in library automation systems despite her background as a defector and from a multicultural family, stated, "This scholarship will be a stepping stone for me to grow into a professional librarian who leads innovation in library services in the AI era." Lee Seung-hee plans to contribute to academia and practice by developing bibliographic data into next-generation knowledge connection data, expressing her gratitude for receiving the scholarship from Nuri Media, the provider of DBpia, which she frequently uses.

Choi Yi-seul, balancing childcare and her studies, received a strong impetus for her research. She aims to conduct empirical research on the loss of meaning and flattening of cultural heritage metadata that occurs with the introduction of generative AI. Park Chang-gyu, who is pursuing a doctorate while working, received his first scholarship, which he finds very encouraging. He intends to grow into an excellent researcher through metadata research.

The scholarship recipients also proposed the establishment of seminars and community programs to foster continuous exchange and academic networking among next-generation researchers. The Nuri Scholarship program, initiated through an agreement between the two organizations in July 2024, is operated by the Korean University Library Association with financial support from Nuri Media. It selects and supports graduate students in library and information science programs nationwide who demonstrate excellent academic performance and research potential.
