Kortrijk opens new section of 'Green Connection' cycling and walking route in Heule

Heule, near Kortrijk, celebrated the opening of a new segment of 'De Groene Verbinding' (The Green Connection) on Friday evening. This initiative aims to create a comfortable cycling and walking experience through a green environment, linking Kortrijk, Bissegem, and Heule.

The Green Connection utilizes dedicated cycle and pedestrian paths, along with car-free streets, to connect various green spaces and neighborhoods. The newly opened section bridges the Molenstraat and Bozestraat, featuring an adventure park with play structures, swales, and trees, complementing the existing street garden in Molenstraat. This transformation replaces a former cornfield with a modern, accessible route.

Local residents have expressed satisfaction with the development. One neighbor highlighted the path's daily utility for commuting and observed children actively using the park. This contrasts sharply with the area's previous state as a cornfield, underscoring the project's positive impact on the community's quality of life and recreational opportunities.
