Kosovo allocates $200,000 to Red Cross for earthquake victims in Venezuela

The Republic of Kosovo has committed $200,000 to support communities in Venezuela's La Guaira state, which are still recovering from a double earthquake on June 24. The Kosovar administration transferred the financial contribution to the International Committee of the Red Cross for direct implementation in the affected areas.

Kosovo's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kreshnik Ahmeti, confirmed the transfer, explaining that the absence of a Kosovar consular office or embassy in Caracas necessitated the use of neutral international organizations. This approach ensures that the required assistance reaches the families in La Guaira effectively.

The budgetary allocation aims to expedite the recovery process for La Guaira's residents, who continue to need basic supplies to overcome the devastation caused by the catastrophe. The Balkan nation framed this contribution within its democratic principles of global cooperation, prioritizing support for populations experiencing climate emergencies or instability.

The World Bank previously estimated the direct physical damages from the magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 earthquakes on June 24 at $19.6 billion. The bank recently warned that a slow reconstruction process could hinder the country's economic recovery over the next decade.
