Kosovo truck driver stopped smuggling 2,000 bottles of medical solution

North Macedonia's Customs Administration announced it thwarted an attempt to smuggle 2,000 bottles of the medical solution "Gadonans." The driver, a Kosovo national employed by a transport company, was traveling from Turkey to Kosovo.

Authorities stopped the truck for inspection at the "Deve Bair" border crossing with Bulgaria. When asked if he had anything to declare beyond the registered cargo of aluminum profiles, the driver stated he did not. Suspicion led to a thorough search of the vehicle's cabin.

Customs officials discovered the bottles, packaged in folders and bags without original packaging, concealed in various locations within the cabin. These included the upper bunk, a factory cavity, the area above the driver's seat, and personal luggage. The "Gadonans 7.5 ml" solution is administered intravenously during MRI scans.

The Customs Administration emphasized its commitment to public health by preventing unsafe medical products from reaching citizens. The driver has been charged with smuggling. The administration noted that these medical preparations require import permits and adherence to strict temperature and safety conditions for storage and transport. This year alone, North Macedonia's customs has intercepted 13 smuggling attempts, seizing a total of 29,000 medicinal items.
