KPK arrests Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani in sting operation

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) conducted a sting operation in Sukoharjo, Central Java, arresting the region's regent, Etik Suryani, on Thursday evening. The operation was confirmed by KPK Deputy Chairman Fitroh Rohcahyanto.

"It is true," Fitroh told CNNIndonesia.com on Friday. He stated that further details about the operation, including the alleged case and other individuals apprehended, would be provided later. Suryani is currently undergoing initial examination.

This incident marks the third time in a short period that the KPK has apprehended a regional head in a sting operation. Previously, the anti-graft agency processed the cases of Langkat Regent Syah Afandin for alleged bribery related to projects in the Education and Public Housing and Settlements departments, and Kuantan Singingi (Kuansing) Regent Suhardiman Amby for alleged bribery for positions and gratuities related to the release of Limited Production Forest Areas.

According to information obtained, the individuals apprehended in the sting operation are expected to arrive in Jakarta on Friday morning. As of now, there has been no official statement from the parties involved in the operation, particularly from the Regent's office or the Sukoharjo Regency government.
