KPK Issues Six Investigation Termination Orders by Mid-2026, Including High-Profile Cases

The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) of Indonesia has confirmed the issuance of six investigation termination orders (SP3) up to the middle of 2026. Four of these orders were reported to the KPK Supervisory Board (Dewas) within the current year, while two others, issued in 2025, were only reported in 2026. This disclosure sheds light on the procedural closures of certain corruption investigations.

Achmad Taufik Husein, the Acting Director of Investigation at KPK, explained that SP3s are granted in specific circumstances. These include cases where the suspect has passed away or when a case is dismissed following a successful pre-trial motion filed by the defendant. "These two SP3s were only reported to the KPK Supervisory Board in the 2026 period," Husein stated, clarifying the timeline of reporting.

The list of terminated investigations includes Siman Bahar, former CEO of PT Loco Montrado, who died in 2026; Kusnadi, former Chairman of the East Java DPRD, who died in 2025; and Budhi Sarwono, former Regent of Banjarnegara, who passed away in 2024. Additionally, SP3s were issued for Indra Iskandar, the Secretary General of the Indonesian House of Representatives, and Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej, the Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights, both of whom successfully won their pre-trial challenges. The cases of Yogi Arie Rukmana and Yosi Andika Mulyadi, who also won their pre-trial motions, were similarly closed.

KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo emphasized that issuing an SP3 is a legal consequence mandated by investigators under specific conditions, such as the death of a suspect. For cases dismissed by pre-trial rulings, Prasetyo noted that KPK conducts further reviews, but the termination proceeds because the suspect's status has been nullified by the court's decision. He cited Indra Iskandar's case, where the pre-trial granted indicated potential formal deficiencies in the investigation, leading to its dismissal and the subsequent issuance of an SP3.
