Krakatau eruption disrupts flights, cancels 12 at Surabaya’s Juanda Airport

The eruption of Anak Krakatau has disrupted air travel at Juanda International Airport in Surabaya, East Java, with 16 flights affected and 12 canceled.

Juanda International Airport General Manager Muhammad Tohir said the disruption followed operational changes at other airports, including Soekarno-Hatta and Radin Inten II in Lampung. The effects then spread to Juanda through a chain reaction involving flight connectivity and aircraft rotations.

The resulting chain reaction affected connectivity and flight rotations, and therefore also affected some operations at Juanda International Airport.

Tohir said the airport was closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with airlines and other stakeholders. Of the 16 affected flights, four faced schedule changes, delays or standby arrangements, he said.

The airport provided snacks and drinks to passengers affected by the changes. Airport security officers, terminal inspectors and customer service staff were also placed in the terminal to help passengers and provide information. Officials urged travelers to check the latest flight status and schedules through their airlines’ official channels.
