Kraljevo mourns girl's death; day of mourning to be declared

Residents of Kraljevo are mourning the tragic death of a five-year-old girl, leaving flowers, toys, and lighting candles at the site where she lost her life. The community is also expressing anger over dangerous driving in the area, with locals having warned for years about speeding.

The incident occurred when a 26-year-old driver, identified as J.A., lost control of his vehicle on a pedestrian path along the Ibar River promenade. Traveling at an excessive speed, the car struck the girl and her mother, throwing them towards a pool fence. Despite immediate assistance from bystanders and emergency services, the young girl succumbed to her injuries.

The driver has been detained for up to 48 hours and faces criminal charges. He has been brought before the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Kraljevo. The mayor of Kraljevo announced on Facebook that a day of mourning will be declared in the city on the day of the girl's funeral.

Locals have voiced their frustration, recalling previous warnings about the dangers of fast driving on the street. They had feared that such behavior could one day lead to a tragedy, a fear that has now been realized with devastating consequences.
