Kremlin: Europeans are preventing the war in Ukraine from ending

The Kremlin accused European countries of making an end to the war in Ukraine more difficult, after representatives from Britain, France and Germany joined talks involving U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoys in Kyiv.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the European participation could complicate the negotiation process. “Unlike the Americans, the Europeans are doing everything they can to prevent this war from ending,” he told journalists in Moscow.

Peskov declined to comment on claims that new U.S. proposals for a peaceful settlement were tougher for Kyiv than earlier versions. He also gave no comment on reports that Moscow was ready to begin negotiations to resolve the Ukraine crisis after Russia’s parliamentary elections in September.

Instead, he stressed that the situation for the government in Kyiv was worsening by the day. Peskov also responded to accusations against Russia from German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, saying, “This is harming Germany itself.”

He said the Kremlin did not want a complete break in relations with Germany.
