Kruševac police arrest two for suspected extortion

Police in Kruševac have arrested two local residents, a 43-year-old identified as D.A. and a 40-year-old identified as M.Ž., on suspicion of extortion.

The arrests follow an investigation into allegations that the two men engaged in usurious lending practices. According to the Kruševac Police Department, the suspects allegedly lent the victim 40,000 euros approximately a year ago, stipulating a monthly interest rate in addition to the principal.

After the victim repaid the initial loan amount, the suspects reportedly resorted to violence and serious threats against the victim's life and well-being. They then allegedly demanded a new sum of 77,000 euros, claiming it was owed.

Both individuals have been detained for up to 48 hours under the order of the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Kruševac. They are expected to be brought before a prosecutor with criminal charges filed against them.
