KSP: Negligent SPPG Managers Could Face Criminal Charges

Managers of Indonesia’s Satuan Pelayanan Pemenuhan Gizi, or SPPG nutrition service units, could face criminal proceedings if negligence in the free nutritious meals program causes beneficiaries to suffer food poisoning.

Aby Ismawan, a senior expert at the Presidential Staff Office, said negligence could be investigated under the law when it contains criminal elements. He said every SPPG manager must follow operating procedures set by the government and the National Nutrition Agency.

Units linked to reported poisoning cases will continue to undergo evaluation. The reviews are intended to identify shortcomings and ensure that management improves where necessary. Aby said hygiene failures that harm beneficiaries must remain the responsibility of the managers.

If there is negligence, whether intentional or unintentional, as long as it contains criminal elements, it will be investigated.

The government also requires SPPG heads to stay at the facility throughout food preparation. Their presence is intended to ensure that each stage follows the required procedures and that violations are identified and reviewed.

The Presidential Staff Office is coordinating with local governments on SPPG operations, including the implementation of procedures and responses to negligence. Government task forces will also take part in monitoring and are expected to conduct evaluations quickly when problems emerge.
