Kumamoto begins accepting applications for earthquake disaster certificates

Municipalities in Japan's Kumamoto Prefecture have started accepting applications for disaster certificates, a crucial document for residents whose homes suffered significant damage in a recent earthquake.

The earthquake, which registered a seismic intensity of up to 6-strong, caused substantial damage to residential buildings across the prefecture. The "risai shomeisho," or disaster victim certificate, is a prerequisite for affected individuals to access various forms of public assistance and financial aid.

Some local governments within Kumamoto have already commenced the application process, while others are preparing to do so shortly. This proactive measure aims to expedite the support system for those displaced or impacted by the natural disaster.

The issuance of these certificates is a key step in the recovery process, enabling residents to formally register their losses and begin the procedures for rebuilding and receiving necessary aid from national and local authorities.
