Kumamoto: Caution urged for earthquakes of magnitude 5+; heatstroke measures needed for recovery work

Kumamoto Prefecture is still on alert for seismic activity one week after experiencing a powerful magnitude 7 earthquake. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) has issued a stern warning, urging residents to maintain a high level of caution.

According to the JMA, there is a continued risk of earthquakes registering magnitude 5 or stronger in the region over the coming week. This advisory emphasizes the ongoing seismic instability following the initial major tremor, highlighting the need for preparedness and vigilance among the affected population.

Adding to the challenges faced by residents and recovery workers, the JMA also noted the forecast for dangerously high temperatures across Kumamoto Prefecture on Friday. In light of these extreme weather conditions, the agency specifically advised that measures to prevent heatstroke should be a priority during ongoing restoration and recovery operations.
