Kustošija Sells Another Player for Millions as Andy Bara Strikes Another Deal

Croatian second division club Kustošija continues to make headlines for its successful player development and sales, solidifying its reputation as a talent incubator.

The latest success story involves 18-year-old Ecuadorian winger Carlos Daniel Mejia, who has been sold to Belgian first division club Royal Antwerp for 2 million euros. Mejia, a left-footed winger known for his speed and dribbling ability, spent his first senior season with Kustošija, helping them achieve promotion to the second tier.

This transfer highlights the effective strategy implemented by powerful Croatian manager Andy Bara. Since Bara's involvement, Kustošija has seen multiple young players depart for substantial fees. Notable sales include Mikayil Faye for 1.5 million euros, Rodolfo Aloka for 3 million euros, and Dino Klapija also for 3 million euros.

Royal Antwerp, according to reports, has signed Mejia to a four-year contract. The Belgian club has a recent history of investing in young, promising players, a strategy that previously led them to a double crown in 2023. However, after experiencing financial difficulties, club president Paul Gheysens shifted focus towards acquiring and developing young talent with the hope of future profits, with Mejia being a prime example of this new approach.

Daniel went through the youth ranks at Independiente del Valle in Ecuador, a club where Anthony Valencia and Willian Pacho were also developed.
