Kuwait affirms support for UNESCO World Heritage efforts

Kuwait is actively participating in the 48th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee in Busan, Republic of Korea, reaffirming its dedication to safeguarding global cultural and natural heritage. The Kuwaiti delegation, led by Ambassador Dr. Ali Al-Mudhaf, is showcasing the nation's commitment to international cooperation in heritage preservation.

The National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL) stated that Kuwait's presence in international forums strengthens cultural exchange and expertise sharing with member states and organizations. This engagement is crucial for enhancing UNESCO's mission to protect heritage sites worldwide.

The National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters (NCCAL) affirmed the State of Kuwait’s continued commitment to supporting efforts of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in protecting cultural and natural heritage by enhancing its presence in concerned international forums.

Kuwait's role on the international stage is set to expand as it begins a four-year term on the World Heritage Committee in November 2025. As one of 21 member states representing the Arab Group, Kuwait will contribute to key decisions regarding the inscription of new sites, the conservation of existing ones, and the development of heritage preservation policies.

During the Busan session, the committee is reviewing numerous nominations for World Heritage status. Recent additions include the Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia, a 13th-century Buddhist temple in Thailand, and tidal flats in South Korea, highlighting the diverse range of sites considered for global recognition.
