Kuwait-China projects signal 'massive progress' in bilateral ties

Kuwait is making significant strides in its strategic partnership with China, translating seven agreements signed in September 2023 into concrete development projects. This collaboration marks a new era of comprehensive bilateral cooperation between the two nations.

The North Kabd Technology Station, which recently signed its construction and operation contract, is the second project to move into the implementation phase under the existing memoranda of understanding. This initiative is designed to bolster wastewater treatment infrastructure, enhance environmental sustainability, and improve treatment efficiency, thereby supporting Kuwait's urban expansion and long-term development goals.

Further cooperation is underway in renewable energy, following a framework agreement signed in March 2025. This roadmap aims to accelerate joint projects at Shagaya Phases Three and Four and Abdaliya. The two countries have intensified coordination through regular meetings to overcome obstacles and expedite implementation, aligning with Kuwait's economic development strategy.

A major milestone was the December 2025 signing of the engineering, procurement, and construction contract for the Mubarak Al-Kabeer Port. Approved by Kuwait's Cabinet in January 2025, this project is set to enhance the country's maritime infrastructure, increase port capacity, and improve operational efficiency. It is expected to integrate Kuwait more effectively into regional and international trade and shipping networks.
