Kuwait is my second family: Turkish Ambassador Sönmez bids farewell

The Indonesian Embassy in Kuwait organized a farewell reception for the outgoing Turkish Ambassador, Tuba Nur Sönmez, on Saturday. The event was attended by numerous ambassadors, heads of diplomatic missions, and other dignitaries.

Indonesian Ambassador to Kuwait, Lena Maryana, spoke at the ceremony, characterizing Ambassador Sönmez not only as a successful diplomat but also as a cherished friend. Maryana highlighted Sönmez's friendly demeanor, refined presence, and her ability to foster communication with everyone she encountered. She described the reception as a celebration of friendship, fond memories, and the positive impact Sönmez made during her tenure.

Maryana further commended Sönmez for representing Turkey with elegance, dedication, and professionalism, noting that her noble human qualities complemented her diplomatic achievements. She added that Sönmez was consistently admired for her wisdom, strength, and cheerful, kind personality, wishing her success in her future diplomatic assignments.

Ambassador Sönmez expressed her deep emotions during the farewell, emphasizing that her four years in Kuwait were among the most beautiful chapters of her professional and personal life. "I leave Kuwait with unforgettable memories. You are my second family," she stated. This posting was her first as an ambassador, following previous service at the Turkish Presidency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Sönmez reflected on her experience in Kuwait, noting that it allowed her to build profound human connections with Kuwaiti society and members of the diplomatic corps, making this period distinct from her prior postings. She praised Kuwait's generosity and highlighted a humanitarian gesture involving aid for earthquake-stricken Turkiye, in partnership with Kuwaiti and international organizations. Sönmez also mentioned her involvement in environmental initiatives and commended Kuwait's resilience amidst regional challenges, expressing hope for peace and stability.
