Kuwait, Pakistan ratify defense cooperation agreement

Kuwait and Pakistan have formally approved a defense cooperation agreement, signaling a deepening of ties between the two nations. The accord, published in the official gazette 'Kuwait Al-Youm,' was signed on June 11, 2023, and its ratification follows a review process involving the Constitution and an Amiri Order.

The agreement aims to strengthen cooperation in defense and armed forces training, aligning with the UN Charter and respecting the domestic laws of both countries. It encompasses a broad spectrum of collaboration, including military education, logistics, personnel exchanges, scientific and technological advancements, intelligence sharing, and joint exercises.

To oversee the implementation, a joint military committee will be established, comprising representatives from both Kuwait and Pakistan. The defense ministers of each nation will appoint co-chairs for this committee, which is slated to meet annually, alternating host locations between Kuwait and Pakistan. This committee will be responsible for reviewing past activities and approving future bilateral cooperation plans.

Furthermore, the agreement includes provisions for the protection of confidential information, ensuring that exchanged data, documents, and materials are secured and not shared with third parties without explicit consent. Access to such sensitive information will be restricted to authorized personnel.
