Kuwait revokes citizenship of 30 individuals

Kuwait has officially revoked the citizenship of 30 individuals through recent government decrees and decisions, as published in the Official Gazette Kuwait Alyoum on Thursday, August 13, 2026. The actions were taken based on the Kuwaiti Nationality Law and followed proposals by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, Sheikh Fahad Yousef Saud Al-Sabah.

Two separate decrees, No. 128 and 129 of 2026, issued on August 11, 2026, withdrew Kuwaiti citizenship from six individuals. Decree 128 specifically targeted five individuals: Hussein Ali Hussein Mohsen Al-Ajmi, Nashmi Mohammed Saleh Maneh Al-Ajmi, Sagheer Mohammed Saleh Maneh Al-Ajmi, Saeed Ali Farhan Hawi Al-Shehri, and Halila Ali Farhan Hadi Al-Shehri. The decree also stipulates that citizenship is withdrawn from anyone who acquired it through dependency on these individuals. Decree 129 withdrew citizenship from one additional person, Iman Sharif Najm Abdullah Hanyan Al-Shammari.

In parallel, the Supreme Committee for Kuwaiti Citizenship Investigation, through Decision No. 14/76 of 2026 issued on August 6, 2026, declared the citizenship of 24 other individuals lost. This decision, effective from its publication, was made under Article 11 of the Kuwaiti Nationality Law. The list of 24 individuals includes members of the Al-Otaibi, Al-Rashidi, Al-Omairi, Al-Hajri, Al-Ajmi, and Mashhadi families, among others.

These decisions, approved by the Council of Ministers, are being implemented by all relevant authorities. The process involved proposals from the Minister of Interior, who also chairs the Supreme Committee for Kuwaiti Citizenship Investigation, underscoring the government's action in managing national citizenship.
