Kwankwaso congratulates Adeleke on Osun election victory

Former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso has congratulated Governor Ademola Adeleke on his re-election as governor of Osun State. Kwankwaso, who is also the Nigeria Democratic Congress vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 election, sent his felicitations via his verified X account on Sunday.

As a leader of the opposition and a committed democrat, I commend the people of Osun State for exercising their democratic rights and reaffirming the power of the people’s mandate.

Adeleke, representing the Accord Party, won the election by securing 511,067 votes. He defeated the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who received 444,815 votes. Adeleke won in 19 of the state's 30 local government areas. This election was particularly notable as Adeleke contested under the Accord Party after leaving the Peoples Democratic Party, the platform through which he was initially elected governor in 2022, following a PDP crisis.

He also commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for its conduct of the election, urging all stakeholders to uphold principles of credible, peaceful, and transparent elections. His commendation comes amidst reports of alleged vote-buying, inducement, and isolated incidents of violence during the election.
