Kwankwaso: Obi Will Honor One-Term Promise If Elected in 2027

Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, vice-presidential candidate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has voiced strong confidence in the party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Kwankwaso asserted that Obi will uphold his pledge to serve a single four-year term if elected in the 2027 presidential election.

I personally believe Peter Obi is a gentleman and I have every reason to trust him, especially that he said it to the hearing of everybody. Nobody should have any reason to doubt him.

Speaking during an interview on News Central's '60 Minutes with Mr. Kay,' Kwankwaso described Obi as a "gentleman" worthy of trust. "I personally believe Peter Obi is a gentleman and I have every reason to trust him, especially that he said it to the hearing of everybody. Nobody should have any reason to doubt him," Kwankwaso stated.

We believe the southern part of the country should complete its second term and with that, and to the hearing of everybody in this country, I don’t believe any gentleman would want to renege, would want to say no or change his or her mind.

He further explained that the NDC's internal power-sharing structure is founded on mutual trust and a unified agreement among coalition partners. Kwankwaso argued that allowing the southern region of Nigeria to complete an eight-year tenure aligns with this established understanding within the alliance. "We believe the southern part of the country should complete its second term and with that, and to the hearing of everybody in this country, I don’t believe any gentleman would want to renege, would want to say no or change his or her mind," he added.

More importantly, we have collectively gotten a short-term, medium-term and, of course, long-term plan for this country. It does not matter whether it is him from the Obidient side, or my humble self from the Kwankwasiyya side or another side, we believe we have an agenda.

Beyond individual political aspirations, Kwankwaso highlighted that the coalition has collaboratively developed a comprehensive roadmap for governance. This plan is intended to guide the nation's leadership, irrespective of who ultimately occupies the presidency. The NDC's primary focus, he stressed, is the execution of their agreed-upon agenda, rather than promoting the interests of any specific political faction. Kwankwaso assured that the coalition would strive for program continuity, ensuring that whoever leads the country adheres to their established plan.

That agenda, we will as much as possible ensure that whoever comes, maybe Peter, maybe me or any other person, would stick to that programme.
