Kwara Assembly Member Defects From APC

Saba Gideon, representing the Edu State Constituency in the Kwara State House of Assembly, has officially resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

I hereby formally resign my membership of the All Progressives Congress, effective immediately.

Gideon cited internal party issues, including a lack of democracy, fairness, and inclusiveness, as the reasons for his departure. His resignation letter, dated August 19, 2026, was addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Tsaragi Ward 3 in Edu Local Government Area.

This decision follows careful reflection and consultations with my constituents and key stakeholders. Recent developments within the party, particularly concerning internal democracy, fairness and inclusiveness, have led me to take this decision.

The lawmaker, who chairs the House Committee on Livestock, stated that his decision was made after careful reflection and consultations with his constituents and stakeholders. He affirmed his continued commitment to serving the people of Edu State Constituency, Kwara State, and Nigeria with integrity. Gideon also expressed gratitude to the APC for the opportunities and support he received during his membership.

This move comes several months after Gideon was suspended by the Kwara State House of Assembly for three months. The suspension, which began in December 2025, was due to allegations of contempt and breach of legislative privilege, specifically for allegedly recording a closed-door meeting and sharing the audio with an unauthorized person. The Assembly had deemed his conduct capable of bringing the legislative institution into disrepute.
