Kwara State Police Commissioner begins unannounced inspections of formations

The Commissioner of Police for Kwara State, Ojo Adekimi, has initiated a series of unannounced operational inspections across various police divisions and formations within the state. This proactive measure is designed to provide a firsthand assessment of the professional disposition and commitment of police officers, identify operational challenges, and evaluate the working conditions personnel face.

Station guards must remain alert, observant and responsive at all times because they constitute the first line of defence and security for every police facility.

The inspection, which commenced on Wednesday, included visits to the Area Command, Metro, Ilorin, and twelve divisional headquarters within the Ilorin metropolis. According to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, the exercise allows the Commissioner to directly observe the realities confronting officers and assess their preparedness and capability gaps.

During these visits, Commissioner Adekimi engaged directly with officers, reviewed security arrangements, and stressed the importance of heightened vigilance, particularly for station guards who form the first line of defense. He directed personnel to bolster operational effectiveness and public safety, emphasizing the need for constant alertness and adequate security around police facilities.

Our approach to policing must be proactive and intelligence-driven. Every officer must remain professionally committed, disciplined, vigilant and responsive to the security needs of the communities we serve.

Furthermore, the CP urged officers to adopt proactive and intelligence-driven approaches to crime prevention. He underscored that professionalism, accountability, and community policing remain central to his operational strategy. Adekimi also issued a stern warning against misconduct, corruption, and extortion, stating that the command has zero tolerance for such practices and that culpable officers will face disciplinary and legal action.
