Kwara to boost border surveillance against illegal migration, human trafficking

Kwara State in Nigeria is intensifying efforts to bolster border surveillance and security partnerships to combat illegal migration and human trafficking. The state's Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ibrahim Sulyman, announced plans to strengthen collaboration with the Nigeria Immigration Service and other security agencies.

This irregular migration is not unconnected with the issue of terrorism, kidnapping and banditry that found their ways into our state. Before now, Kwara State has been a very peaceful state.

Sulyman expressed concern over the influx of irregular migrants into the state without proper profiling, linking this trend to increased terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry. He emphasized that while all Nigerians have the right to live anywhere, migrants entering Kwara must have legitimate purposes.

No Nigerian can be denied the right of living in any state of their choice, but every migrant into the state must come with a purpose.

The state aims to improve data tracking and migrant profiling through coordinated efforts among security agencies. This initiative is seen as crucial for addressing the state's insecurity challenges. The government is urging the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, and other agencies to support the fight against human trafficking, acknowledging it as a difficult but necessary task.

Finding a solution to the state’s insecurity challenges begins with checking illegal migration of people into Kwara State through data tracking and proper profiling, which can be achieved through collaborative efforts with appropriate authorities both at the state borders and in their different offices across the state.
