Kyrgyz citizens increasingly seek eye surgery in Novosibirsk

Kyrgyz citizens are increasingly seeking specialized eye surgeries at the Novosibirsk branch of the Intersectoral Scientific and Technical Complex (MNTK) "Eye Microsurgery." According to the medical facility's director, Valeriy Chernykh, the center previously treated patients from 38 countries before the COVID-19 pandemic, performing around 3,000 operations annually.

In 2025, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan were the top five countries of origin for foreign patients. Chernykh noted that about half of the Kyrgyz patients who undergo diagnostics decide to stay for treatment. Patients from Kyrgyzstan often present with severe conditions, including retinal detachment and post-traumatic issues.

The Novosibirsk branch boasts nine departments and handles a large patient volume, performing approximately 50,000 operations in 2025, with 80% being high-complexity surgical interventions. Daily, the clinic sees up to 600 patients of all ages, conducts up to 300 surgeries, and offers comprehensive diagnostics and treatment for all ophthalmic diseases. The staff includes over 400 people, with 90 physicians.

The facility also runs a successful "doctor-to-doctor" telemedicine project, enabling consultations for treatment possibilities. Additionally, it offers "live surgery" broadcasts for real-time viewing of unique operations and supports scientific and educational activities. Doctors from Kyrgyzstan and other Central Asian countries also come to the clinic for internships.
