Kyrgyz Horror Film to Premiere on Amazon Channels in the United States

A Kyrgyz village, a family tragedy and a string of mysterious events form the basis of OT (Burning), a mystical horror film now reaching the United States through Amazon Channels.

Produced by Kyrgyz studio 1.1 STUDIO, the film becomes available on the platform on September 4. Its creators say it is the first feature from Kyrgyzstan to reach American audiences through Amazon Channels, giving it access to the U.S. market’s multimillion audience.

OT combines psychological horror, mysticism, Kyrgyz folklore and social issues. The story unfolds through different perspectives as strange events follow a tragedy within one family.

The film had already built an international festival record before its U.S. release. It premiered at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal in 2025, where it won Best Asian Feature and the AQCC Jury Prize. It later screened at Fantaspoa in Brazil and the Cottbus Festival of East European Films in Germany.

At the Bishkek International Film Festival, the film won Best Screenplay. Its U.S. distribution resulted from cooperation among 1.1 STUDIO, Freeminds and IndiePix Films. The filmmakers hope the release will expand Kyrgyz cinema’s international presence and open opportunities for other domestic projects.
